From Prosecutor to Defender
Hailing from Tyler, Texas, Matt was inspired to become an attorney by witnessing criminal defense attorneys in the surrounding area. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Texas A&M University in 2013. He then went on to achieve his Juris Doctorate in 2016 from South Texas College of Law Houston.
Matt became a Smith County Prosecutor before becoming an Assistant Federal Public Defender with the Eastern District of Texas. This diverse background in criminal law gave him a comprehensive understanding of the complex intricacies of Federal and State law.
During his time as a Federal Defender, Matt practiced exclusively in Federal Criminal law. He honed his ability to advocate in the courtroom in negotiations, helping clients achieve proper justice. He now uses his extensive knowledge and skills to give clients rigorous legal representation.
Matt still resides in Tyler, Texas with his wife Katie, his two daughters and their family dog. In his spare time, Matt enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends, golfing and Aggie Sports.
